Meet our Pugs & Pug Mixes
Pug Rescue of Austin typically has more than eighty available dogs at any given time. Not all available dogs are listed on our website and new dogs come in often.
Once you have been approved to adopt, an adoption coordinator will review all available dogs with you to help you find the best new addition to your family.
We Save Lives
Our goal is to never say no to a pug or pug mix in need. Most of the pugs we rescue have been in abusive, neglectful situations. We’re able to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome over 200 pugs and pug mixes a year thanks to the help of our outstanding medical partners, our network of transport volunteers and foster families, and donations from big-hearted pug lovers.
Costello was surrendered after his owner passed away and initially arrived obese with chronic diarrhea. After his fosters helped him lose weight, an ultrasound revealed a large bleeding splenic mass, and Westlake Animal Hospital successfully performed emergency surgery to remove a 3.5-lb benign tumor. Thanks to excellent medical care, his dedicated fosters, and generous supporters, his blood work has greatly improved and he is now thriving.
Granny was a stray released to us in the evening. She is in terrible shape. We estimate she is about 10 yrs old but frankly could be even older. She is an untreated diabetic and arrived emaciated and anemic with infected eyes that were scabbed over and dry. She is blind and has a large wound on her right hip, severe ear infection, urinary tract infection and multiple mammary tumors. She may also have Cushing's disease but its not been verified yet.
Zack is just four years old, full of life, love, and energy. But his heart is under siege. Surrendered for being “too active,” this joyful pug now faces a deadly diagnosis: caval syndrome, a rare and life-threatening complication of heartworm disease. His only hope lies in a high-risk, life-saving surgery at Texas A&M University.
Meet Medusa, a 9-week-old puppy who came to us under heartbreaking circumstances. We don’t know exactly what trauma she’s been through, but we do know she needs emergency care, and fast. Medusa is facing a serious injury and is currently at the vet and we’re doing everything we can to give her a fighting chance. We’ve already covered her initial exam but expect her total care to exceed $3,000. Every dollar helps! Please donate if you can and share if you can’t. Medusa needs all of us right now.
Meet Friday, a brave pug who was surrendered to us with a severe, urgent eye injury. Despite her pain, she's alert, affectionate, giving us kisses and fighting to stay strong. We're committed to giving her the care she deserves, but we need your help. The estimated cost for her treatment could be around $2,500, and every donation brings us closer to saving her. Please consider contributing and sharing her story.
We recently rescued two separate pregnant pugs, and we are pleased to share that both dogs just safely gave birth in the comfort and safety of our rescue. Cranberry, seen on the gray towel, has given birth to seven beautiful puppies, while Stuffing, on the pumpkin towel, welcomed six lovely puppies into the world. We’re grateful to provide them with the care and support they need.
Meet Bingo, a pug mix foster in our care who is a sweet and happy dog with a literal broken heart. His heart valves are too narrow, forcing his heart to work much too hard and putting him at severe risk. But there is hope! A procedure called balloon valvuloplasty can widen his valves and fix his heart. However, this life-saving procedure is very expensive, costing upwards of $6,500, and can only be performed by a handful of cardiologists.
Chance, our little parvo survivor, is doing fantastic! From being lost and living outside to battling parvo, he has now been given the life he deserves. We want to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated to help him, especially Pug Squad for their generous donation. Chance sends his love and gratitude to all his supporters!
Found alone in freezing temperatures, emaciated, and suffering from severe medical issues, Sputnik is now under our and looking forward to a brighter future. Despite his past, Sputnik's tail still wags with hope. Your support ensures his journey to recovery and a loving forever home.
Meet Tripp, our resilient pug with a heart as big as his spirit! He came to Pug Rescue of Austin with a broken leg, likely the result of an old injury. Despite his tough past, Tripp underwent successful surgery, including an amputation, and he's now on the road to recovery.
Originally a stray from San Antonio, Cadence had a rough start in life. She experienced some unknown eye trauma, which unfortunately led to the removal of her right eye. But there's good news - the kind-hearted individuals who found her brought her to Pug Rescue of Austin, where her journey to a better life began.
Meet Rowe, a sweet pug who survived a car accident, and suffered head trauma, a broken arm, and other injuries. Today, he's undergoing surgery to mend his broken arm at Violet Crown Veterinary Specialists.
Your donation can change Rowe's life. Help us provide the care and love he needs and cover his $4,000 surgery costs. Join us in supporting his recovery.
