Costello’s Comeback
Costello was surrendered by the family of an owner that passed away back in July.
Costello and his brother, Abbott, were really obese and suffering from chronic diarrhea. Costello weighed 26.9 lbs and was deemed to be 9 lbs overweight. He had some abnormal lab work values that our doctors at Westlake Animal hospital were monitoring. By the end of November, with proper diet, his fosters were able to reduce his weight by 5 1/2 lbs. When he came in for that weight and blood work recheck, his CBC and albumin values had taken a dramatic downturn. He was very fussy and snapping at times when he was lifted up. An abdominal ultrasound revealed he had a very large splenic mass that was slowly bleeding. This was a mass well hidden by his obesity when he was originally examined. He had emergency surgery at Westlake and a 3 1/2 lb tumor was successfully removed from his abdomen. He was a champ throughout the entire procedure. The mass was sent for histopathology and came back benign so no cancer! At his last recheck two weeks ago, his blood work values were greatly improved. He now weighs 17 1/2 lbs, a perfect weight for him as you can see in his after pictures. We want to thank his incredible fosters, Todd and Pat Hayes, as well as the medical team at Westlake for the excellent care he received to get him through this. Most of all a huge THANK YOU to all of our donors and supporters who make it possible to save lives like Costello's.
