Get Well, Granny

Granny Getting her First Spa

Granny was a stray from AAC that was released to us in the evening.

She is in terrible shape. We estimate she is about 10 yrs old but frankly could be even older. She is an untreated diabetic in a diabetic crisis due to uncontrolled high blood sugar and electrolyte levels all out of balance. She arrived emaciated and anemic with infected eyes that were scabbed over and dry. She is blind. She had a large wound on her right hip, severe ear infection, urinary tract infection and multiple mammary tumors. She may also have Cushing's disease but its not been verified yet. She has been transferred to the Emergency Animal Hospital of Crystal Falls to Intensive care to be monitored on IV fluids and an insulin drip to get her blood sugar in a normal range and correct her life threatening electrolyte imbalance. We are frankly amazed she is alive. She is actually eating well and wagging her tail despite being in such bad shape. One of the worst cases of abuse by neglect we've seen. Her estimate for care is $4-6K for the next two to three days depending on how she responds. What a little old lady fighter who REALLY loved getting her first spa and getting those eyes treated!

Please donate to help with Granny’s care today!

Update October 25, 2025: From our medical coordinator - “I just went by to see her and she is hanging in there and stable. Still eating, pain free and comfortable. She may not be able to see but she could certainly hear me call her name... She is doing well enough to transition off of the IV insulin to twice daily injections. We really want to thank the doctors and nurses at The Emergency Animal Hospital of Crystal Falls for the love and amazing care she is getting.”

Update October 31, 2025: Sweet Granny has been through a lot—but this little lady is proving to be one tough (and sassy!) cookie. Her blood sugar is still a bit high, but it’s coming down slowly. Her hip wound is healing beautifully, her eye infection is clearing up, and her tummy troubles have resolved. And her personality? Oh, it’s shining. Granny is a certified diva. She barks with purpose, demands her meals on time, and lets you know exactly how she’s feeling. She loves strutting around in her pajamas and being carried like a baby. Or maybe like the royalty she clearly is. 👑She’s now under the care of our regular vet at Westlake Animal Hospital where she’ll stay until she’s fully regulated. Once she’s stabilized, we’ll move forward with her spay and mammary tumor care. We’re so grateful to everyone who donated toward her emergency care—you made this recovery possible. If Granny’s story touched your heart, we’d love your support during Pug-A-Thon, our biggest fundraiser of the year! Every dollar helps us say “yes” to more pugs in crisis—just like Granny. 👉 https://pugrescueofaustin-bloom.kindful.com/pug2025
