Support a Pug's Recovery from Heat Stroke

See this content in the original post

Helios, a 3-year-old pug, has recently suffered a severe heat stroke, leaving him in critical condition. His owners, unable to afford the necessary care, made the selfless decision to relinquish him to the Pug Rescue of Austin in hopes of giving him a fighting chance. Now, we are rallying our compassionate community to aid Helios on his path to survival.

Helios Update

Our little guy is definitely hanging in there.

His blood sugar stabilized and he started eating on his own. Unfortunately his anemia worsened yesterday so he had to receive a blood transfusion but he seems even better today.

If all goes well the plan is to release him from the Emergency Clinic and transfer him to the care of our doctors at Westlake Animal Hospital tomorrow.

With continued medical care and support our hope is he will make a full recovery.

Heat stroke can have devastating consequences, including organ failure, clotting issues, and even death if not promptly addressed. When we received the distressing call from emergency doctors about Helios' condition, we knew we had to act swiftly. Since Friday evening, he has been under intensive care at the emergency clinic, receiving life-saving treatments.

Helios' journey has not been easy, but he has shown incredible strength and resilience. With the support of the medical team, he has been receiving vital IV fluids, antibiotics, dextrose supplements, liver support medications, plasma transfusions, and medications to help his body heal and recover.

The past 36 hours have seen small but promising improvements, and we eagerly await tomorrow’s update with hopes that Helios will continue on this positive trajectory.

Beyond Helios' case, we are determined to raise awareness about the dangers of heat stroke in pugs and the importance of immediate medical intervention. We implore all pug owners to be vigilant, educated, and proactive in protecting their furry companions from the perils of heat stroke. Recognizing the signs—excessive panting, rapid breathing, lethargy, disorientation—is crucial. Time is of the essence. Seek emergency veterinary care if you suspect heat stroke, as swift action can save lives.

Join us in this vital mission to help Helios heal and spread awareness about heat stroke prevention. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference in his journey to recovery.

Donate today and be a part of Helios' story of hope and second chances. Together, we can give Helios the best possible chance at a full recovery and a future filled with love, joy, and pug-tastic adventures.
