From El Paso to Fenway
It’s been a long road for a neglected little guy from El Paso we named Fenway.
A little over two months ago we first took him under PRA's care.
He had a very large perianal hernia on both sides that had not only trapped his lower intestines but also his bladder. It was a life threatening situation.
Once we got him to Austin he had an initial surgery to put everything back to where it was supposed to go and close the hernias. Initially all went well but a little over two weeks later the left side herniated again trapping the colon and bladder and he had to have a second surgery. Five weeks later he has healed successfully.
He may not be a purebred pug but he was a squishy face in need and this is why we do what we do. The shelter he came from did not have the resources available to help him and without our help he likely would have faced euthanasia.
We cannot underscore enough how thankful we are to everyone from Dr. Cannup at the El Paso shelter to all of the other coordinators, transporters, unbelievably patient fosters and his incredible surgeon at Westlake Animal Hospital, Dr. Voelzel.
Major kudos goes to all the dedicated staff at Westlake Animal Hospital that cared for Fenway during what was a very unpleasant and complicated healing process.
The best news of all is that he has officially been adopted. Merry Christmas Fenway!
