When we first saw Queso (formerly Eggroll), he was curled up in his foster mom’s arms and his cute little tongue was peeking out of the corner of his mouth. He had a bad eye infection and was wearing the cone of shame. But he had the cutest face and sweetest disposition. We had been toying with the idea of getting a companion for our pug Mac ever since we moved to Austin in 2011. But after years of volunteering with Pug Rescue of Austin and fostering several dogs, we still hadn’t found one that really clicked with Mac. I was beginning to worry that we loved Mac too much and no dog would ever be as awesome as him in our eyes…or maybe that we had spoiled him so much that he would forever be an only dog. But Queso stood out to us.
Although Mac and Queso aren’t BFFs (yet), they’re slowly warming up to each other. The first night in our home, Queso hid in the corner of our living room. Now, he happily follows all of us around. As soon as Mac potties in the backyard, Queso is right behind him to do his business in the same spot. After returning from a long day at work, both pups run side by side to eagerly greet us at the door. Just like human kids, they fight for one of the dog beds…even though we have multiple beds, blankets, and pillows around our house to choose from.
Queso has adapted so well that it’s hard to remember what life was like before him. Thank you for helping us make our family complete, PRA!
