Rainbow Bridge – Dizzy
We are the happy family that had the lucky opportunity of adopting Gustav. I have finished up the paperwork and Bryan asked us to send along the adoption story over to you so that you could collect them to share with others. Here’s our story:
We have been wanting to get a second dog in our household for quite some time but due to life events (children being born, starting my own private practice, my husband starting law school, selling and buying a home) we have been unable to. We finally felt like we got in a good place of stability in May 2017 when we moved into our new house and settled into our neighborhood. At that point we began the adoption process in November of 2017 with Austin Pug Rescue and with the help of many wonderful people there who helped us complete the steps, we were able to meet Gustav in January of this year. He was definitely a little nervous at first but we welcomed him with open arms and he got multiple hugs from the children every day along with kisses from our 12 year old pit bull Atticus. Gustav lives a very lush lifestyle, enjoying two one-mile walks a day in our neighborhood around the lake, belly rubs whenever he wants them, and sleeps between our children in their big bed every night. For a 10 year old senior, we were expecting some slowness but he is quite the energetic little dog, bounding up and down our stairs and running around the house and on our walks! He definitely outdoes our older pit bull 🙂 We had a welcoming party for him in late January with some doggy ice cream and many of our friends were there to celebrate him. We had about 6 children fighting over who got to walk him that day and hold his leash. Gustav has fit in very easily and we are very happy to have him and take care of him during his later years.
