In Fall of 2017 our beloved Pug, Macy, had a cancer scare where she had two mast cell tumors removed from her skin. We had always wanted another dog to be her companion and this was the wakeup call we needed to begin looking for another pug to join our family. Not wanting to support puppy mills- we turned to the Pug Rescue of Austin.
We were wanting a dog that was younger than 6 and assumed we would end up adopting a middle aged dog. Christmas time came and Macy got to meet Santa at the “Puggly Sweater Contest”. Shortly after the holidays, poor Macy was diagnosed with diabetes so we had to learn how to manage this to keep her healthy. Meanwhile, we were also expecting our 2nd child in the spring. At about 8 months pregnant we got the call from Pug Rescue of Austin! They had a pug PUPPY and we had made our way to the top of the adoption list. One look at this baby and we knew she was who we were waiting for.
And because we are a special kind of crazy- we agreed to the two-week trial knowing a newborn and a puppy is just asking for double trouble! Little did we know that “Gretchen” now named Penny would be the smart, loyal, and loving pug she is… not the little hellion Macy was when she was a pup!
She quickly assimilated to our routine and won a place in our hearts and home. We are so grateful to the Pug Rescue of Austin for bringing Penny to us and allowing us to start our very own grumble!!
